Default Any chance of a shadow trial?

Hi,
I'm interested in trying out a shadow as I'm currently looking to change class from my foiling moth. Would anyone know if there would be an opportunity to try a shadow near the south wales area? Also how practical are they to sail on a small reservoir, in lighter gusty conditions in general? Any help would be much obliged.

Regards

Robin Wood

Hi Robin,

I'm not sure if we have any Shadows in Wales.

The nearest may be Grafham or Southampton and Isle Of Wight. Loday White (builders) have a demo boat which maybe in Brightlinsea (Essex) at the moment.

Like the Moth, the Shadow is pretty quick and so suitability for your 'pond' depends on size and rules about catamarans. if its a 'shifty' reservoir, then trapezing also may be 'interesting' if you get 90 degree shifts in the blink of an eye. It would be the same on your moth, except the shadow is a much wider platform.

I sail on the Solent so we have a bit more space. The Shadow is a great boat and well worth a try.

Give Henry at Loday White a ring (details on shadowsailing.org.uk) and ask about a demo\demo boat.

Hope this helps.

Robin ,

Most of the Shadows are on the South Coast or Thames Estuary but if you can make it to the IOW you are most welcome to have a try.
Like Robin L I sail at Gurnard so plenty of water. The Shadow unlike most cats does tack very fast when you get it right so no issues for a small reservoir but i guess how small it is.
My contact details are on the forum so happy to help out if i can.
