And here are a couple more. I think Yves is making it clear here that the big spinnaker lifts the bow!!
Thanks to Yves for the Photos. With the pole- the bend depends on how you set the tip height for the luff legth, in combination with the length of the middle rope. You do need a fair bit of bend with no load as it straightens a bit when the kite is up. |

David;
As Olly states the pole will move around under the loads with the kite up. One thing you might want to consider is drilling a couple of holes on the front of the bow (about 40mm in and 1/2 way down) for the pole support lines as this improves the angles to support the luff/pole. I did it on my F16 as the pole was fairly unstable when tight reaching in lightish winds as everything is cranked in hard and there is a lot of compression loading on the pole. Takes about 30 mins with 2 lots of filler
Yes; it would add work; but it does improve the set of the kite / loads on the pole; but you might be OK as your kite is a little bit smaller. |

As our take off point for the pole lines is almost right on the end of the bow, and the protrusion of the pole past the bow is not that far, I think it works fine as it is- it certainly looks right.
Admittedly I haven't tried reaching much, but it seems well supported. The problem is when the pole is low to the deck (like a Tornado and many others), so the angle of the line is too flat). Ours is actually at a good angle. Olly |
